ARRI, a leading camera and lighting equipment manufacturer, unveiled its newest line of impression filters for the Signature Prime lens at the BSC Expo 2023. The filters, which are magnetic and attach to the back of the lens, come in four sets of positive diopters and four sets of negative diopters, with varying strengths up to a 330p positive and 290n negative. According to Tom Murphy from ARRI, these filters allow filmmakers to “bake in” their image choice on the back of the glass, eliminating the need to put them in front of the matte box.
The filters are also small, which reduces the likelihood of them getting scratched, and they can be used on gimbals, drones, and Steadicam. ARRI is set to release films that showcase the different effects of the filters on the Signature Prime lens.
In addition to the impression filters, ARRI also displayed its Signature Zoom set, which pairs perfectly with the Signature Primes. The company also demonstrated how to match mini LF on its new camera, the Alexa 35.
At the BSC Expo 2023, ARRI also showcased its history of making cameras for over 100 years. The booth featured some of its old cameras, including a Canary from 1927 and an Ariflex 35 from 1937. The display is a testament to ARRI’s long-standing commitment to the film industry and its continuous innovation to improve the filmmaking process.
