[BSC Expo 2023] CinCraft Mapper - Zeiss

German optics manufacturer Zeiss has unveiled its new CinCraft mapper platform at the BSC Expo 2023 in London. The system builds on Zeiss’s digital cinematography progression by providing shading and distortion data frame accurately. This eliminates the need to shoot and analyze lens grids in pre-production and improves the efficiency and accuracy of the VFX workflow. The platform transmits lens metadata and provides ST and multiply maps for the shading and match-moving and compositing workflow within the VFX pipeline. Hi there so my name’s Adam Kidman and we’re here today at the BSC Expo 2023 on the Carl Zeiss cinematography stand.
I’m here today to talk to you a little bit about what we’ve got on show today.

So obviously we’ve got a wide array of Zeiss lenses here on display and on demo.

So we’ve got our Supreme Prime supreme, Supreme Prime Radiance lenses, CP3 Cinema zooms all full frame and then we also have our lightweight Zoom super 35 21-100mm as well.

But the really interesting and new thing that I wanted to talk to you a little bit about today is our CinCraft mapper platform from Zeiss.

The synchcraft mapping platform builds Upon Our digital cinematography progression and it essentially provides shading and distortion data.

Frame accurately which both improves the efficiency and accuracy of the existing VFX workflow.

So it completely negates the need now to have to shoot and analyze lens grids in pre-production.  

In order to obtain this information and you simply need to make sure that your lens and Camera combo can allow the transmission of lens metadata.

And then all you need to do is upload your exr sequence to the mapper platform.

And within a few clicks of the button, you can get your ST and multiply maps for the shading and match moving and compositing workflow within the VFX pipeline.

You know when you consider the amount of budgets that are spent on these VFX Productions,

It’s surprising that we’re still reliant on such a manual process when it comes to lens grids that are prone to human error, and Zeiss have a lot of this lens data at our fingertips.

When it comes to us designing and producing our lenses, so it makes sense to offer this information, offer this data out to our audiences, out to our customers, out to the VFX Partners as well, to improve their workflow, improve the accuracy and efficiency.
