I wanted to make fabrics that would create shadows when exposed to sunlight or moonlight, and I wanted to weave them. This is the kind of shadow weaving that we developed.
Basically, one color or two colors is fine, but for this chambray colored fabric, we tried to weave it in such a way as to create shadows.
Our looms and weaving machines are computer-controlled, so we can weave fabrics with jagged edges like this.
Shadows like dots, diagonal lines, and so on.
I’m working on adding more patterns and variations to the shadows.
I can create shadows with one color, but I want to use two or three colors to create more depth, like gray or black or whatever.
I wanted to bring out the depth of the gray, but not the same gray, or the black, but not the same black, and so I used two colors or three colors.
I added several kinds of threads to express this.
